Choosing wedding band for women is more complex than for men for two reasons:

Women like plenty of glitter and detail as opposed to men`s rather conventional taste.

The band is in most cases worn together with an engagement ring and must suit its shape

When a woman is Choosing a ring the practicality is frequently neglected for the interest of the trend and this is perfectly right. The coming observations have only the purpose to help you focus your selection in order to get the best of both.

If your selection is wedding ring with fine detail or engraving consider platinum or palladium. These two metals are exceedingly hard wearing and have low maintenance. For yellow or rose gold rings opt for 18k purity or higher. Despite the fact that higher karat alloys are a bit softer they have higher abrasion resistance and when exposed to friction, the metal is rather displaced than removed. This attribute (abrasion resistance) makes the rings much longer lasting and it is of significant importance for everyday rings. Platinum holds the highest scratch resistance closely followed by palladium.

If you are going to wear your wedding ring together with an engagement ring it is good to consider the ring`s frame in order to fit the band close enough. Very few diamond ring designs provide place for the wedding ring behind the diamond, which is strange because wearing the band adjacent to the diamond ring is an usual practice. Classic wedding band for example arranged next to classic 4 prong knife shank solitaire results in a wide gap between the band and the ring`s shank. The best remedy for this problem is to take this in consideration when selecting the ring design. Unfortunately this is the last affair in the mind of a man going to propose. The next alternative is to either fit the ring to the band or vice versa. If the band is wide enough to take the ring`s setting without becoming excessively thin, a negative pattern is filed off the ring and the problem is solved. If this is not feasible option the setting has to accommodate the ring. I personally don`t like this solution since it requires interference with the setting`s structure which sometime might weaken it. It is OK however, if it is professionally concluded. In both instances I will recommend to tack solder the two rings together at the back after they are properly fit. This way the band will be permanently positioned to the ring, which also keeps them from getting misplaced. This work can be concluded after the wedding ceremony, it is simple and completely reversible if correctly performed. Tacking the wedding band to the engagement ring is ideal solution for half studded diamond bands, keeping them from reversing their plain side up.

It is not a bad idea to avoid bands high prong set diamonds that go far between the fingers. This kind of setting tends to hook on clothing and may induce skin irritation. The smoothest design is plain channel setting. Avoid hollowed designs which may collect dirt within and thin light gauge bands which will very fast wear to a sharp edge. Even platinum wedding band will scratch and finally be due to refresh. Avoiding complex mix finishes (polished and matte in succession for example) will make refreshing simple and error free. Choosing palladium or platinum will rule out the necessity for frequent and sometime expensive rhodium plating.
